You don't owe anyone a justification. Use these templates as-is or tweak them. Three rules apply to all of them: don't over-explain, don't get on a call, and never decide on the spot.
The 3 rules of declining
- Don't over-explain: every reason you give becomes something to argue against. "I'm not interested" is a complete sentence
- Don't take the call: "just hear us out" moves you to the hardest place to say no — live, often outnumbered. Keep it in writing
- Don't decide on the spot: if you ever do consider an offer, always sleep on it. The more urgency, the more that pause is worth

Pick the tone that fits the relationship and how persistent they've been. If they push back, repeat the same message in the same tone.
① Soft (you want to keep the friendship)
Thanks for thinking of me! That kind of thing really isn't for me though, so I'll pass. Let's grab food sometime soon — just not about this. 🙂
② Firm (no reasons given)
I'm not interested in this, so I won't be joining. I appreciate the thought, but please don't invite me to anything related to it again.
③ Final warning (when they won't stop)
As I've said before, I'm not participating. If this comes up again, I'll have to block this contact. Please don't message me about it anymore.
④ The family filter (very effective)
I have a rule that I don't make any money decisions without going over them with my family first. Can you send me the full terms and pricing in writing so I can share them for review?
